48Hrs in The Cotswolds with Lisa Mehydene

Lisa Mehydene, is the founder and creative director of online homewares brand and rug sourcing consultancy, edit58. Although Lisa, her husband and their 13-year-old twins are based in London, they have owned a small barn in the southern part of the Cotswolds, in the Coln Valley since 2019. We asked Lisa for her best travel tips for 48hrs in the Cotswolds.

1- STAY

The Pig – Barnsley

Situated in the quintessential Cotswolds village of Barnsley, The Pig in The Cotswolds is a beautiful Grade II listed country house. There are cosy corners aplenty to curl up in, or you can explore the stunning gardens designed by renowned British gardener Rosemary Verey. The food is all sourced from the kitchen garden or local suppliers. There’s also a spa and the Pig Pub in the same village for fireside drinks.

2- EAT (& DRINK!)

The food scene in The Cotswolds is mostly based around cosy pubs. And that suits me just fine! My favourite local pub is The Victoria Inn in Eastleach, not far from The Pig.  For a spoiling supper I love Juliet in Stroud.

3-PLAY & VISIT)

There’s great shopping to be done in the Cotswolds; from antiques (Station Mill Antiques Centre and Lorfords Hangers), garden centres (Burford Garden Centre - so much more than the name suggests!) or a fully stocked farmshop (Daylesford, Jolly Nice and The Organic Farmshop are favourites).

4- SEE)

The beautiful houses and gardens that we have in the Cotswolds. I love Sezincote house, Kelmscott House and Painswick Rococo Gardens.

Top Tip: My top tip would be to walk, walk, Walk! It’s the best way to take in the beautiful scenery, work up an appetite and get a feel for the Cotswolds. Download the OS app (ordinance survey) and you can clearly see walking routes and public footpaths. And my golden rule, all walks must end at the pub!
