Danish crochet designer Laura Hjertefryd has released a beautiful new book that celebrates handmade children’s clothing and the creativity behind it. Known for her whimsical approach to crochet and love of playful color, Hjertefryd brings together storytelling and craft in a collection that feels both nostalgic and modern.

Her book, Hæklerier til børn (“Crochet Creations for Children”), features 20 crochet patterns for children’s clothing in sizes 2–6 years. The designs include cozy cardigans, sweaters, vests, pants, and a dress, each created to showcase texture, color, and personality.

But the book is more than a pattern guide. Each design is paired with a small imaginative story written for the children the garments are made for, adding a magical narrative layer to the crafting process.

Laura Takahashi Christiansen, the creative behind the Laura Hjertefryd crochet profile, has been crocheting since childhood and now develops patterns for magazines, yarn producers, and even handcrafted pieces for Danish fashion brands.  Her philosophy is simple: crochet is not just a technique, but a way to play with color, express individuality, and create something deeply personal.

With its dreamy aesthetic and approachable patterns, Hæklerier til børn invites both beginners and experienced makers into a world where craft meets imagination. It’s a celebration of handmade childhood — where every stitch carries warmth, creativity, and a story.
