When Heather’s daughter requested a mermaid-themed birthday party, she knew right away she wanted to do something different. No traditional pink, blue and purple — this celebration was going to be bold, whimsical, shiny, and full of playful magic. And that's exactly what she created.

The Vibe: Bright, Bold + Mermaid-Chic

Heather sourced streamers, bunting garlands, and fringe decor that brought color and joy to every corner. Much of the party magic came from Meri Meri — including the bright “Happy Birthday” garland and the rainbow-hued streamers. The show-stopping backdrop was a DIY creation using disposable tablecloths and layered party streamers. It made the perfect spot for party pics and set the tone for the festive fun.

Cake and cupcakes were topped with sparkle-tastic decorations from a retired Meri Meri collection — and yes, the cake itself was from Whole Foods, proving that even grocery store desserts can look amazing with the right styling.

Custom Details

To add those unforgettable little touches, Heather teamed up with Poppartydecoratl to create custom mermaid-themed Capri Sun pouches and goldfish goodie bags.

Activities: Sparkle + Splash

Heather curated a craft station where partygoers could decorate their own DIY gem and sparkle treasure chests, get temporary mermaid tattoos, or paint seashells. For the little ones who weren’t in the mood to craft, there was a “gem dive” in the pool, where they could search for shiny treasures underwater. A giant clamshell float added just the right amount of under-the-sea glam.

This party was more than just a theme — it was a celebration of creativity, color, and pure childhood joy. Two little mermaids (and all their friends) got to live out their underwater dreams in the most sparkly, stylish way.

Parent Tip: Heather’s approach proves that mixing a few DIY projects with store-bought pieces and personalized details can turn a simple party into something truly magical.

A little shimmer and a lot of heart go a long way!
